Alvin was left homeless yet again when his owner passed away in August 2024. Our humane officers received a call from the Sheriff’s Department, and with the permission of the homeowner’s next-of-kin, we brought him back to the humane society.
Rescue Village microchips its animals, so intake staff knew that Alvin was adopted from Rescue Village as a kitten. Now 4 years old, with his owner gone, he needed our help once again to find him a secure, loving home, but this wasn’t going to be easy.
During Alvin’s medical exam, our veterinarians found masses in his right ear. When they sedated Alvin, they found black, thickened lesions throughout his ear canal, causing a deep and painful chronic ear infection. With the ear canal blocked, the shelter vets knew that treating him with antibiotics would be pointless.
Alvin was sent to a veterinary surgeon to consult on removing the masses. Advanced imaging showed that not only did Alvin have multiple benign masses in his external ear canal, but he also had a large noncancerous mass growing in his middle ear. The doctors determined that the only medical solution to Alvin’s problem was to remove the ear canal and middle ear along with the growing masses.
Alvin’s surgery is scheduled for early November and will cost more than $6,000 to cover the advanced imaging and the specialty surgery — and Alvin is worth every penny.
As of October 14, 2024, 48 generous donors and counting have contributed $3,818 toward Alvin’s surgery, and we hope you will help too. Another 30 donors have contributed an additional $2,850 to help Rescue Village’s other animals, all as a part of Rescue Village’s participation in the EmbraceCLE Community Challenge.
Every animal deserves a second chance, and Alvin is just one example of the care Rescue Village can provide, but we can’t provide this care alone. We need your support now more than ever. With more and more animals coming through the shelter with special medical issues, with your help, we can give ALL of them the care they so desperately need and deserve.
Imagine if Alvin was your cat (or dog!) – you would want the same level of care to be given to them if they didn’t have you. This is why Rescue Village exists.
While being disrupted from his former home was initially stressful, Alvin is enjoying time with his foster family as he awaits his surgery—getting all the love, peace, and quiet he needs. While the surgery will leave him with only one working ear, his chronic ear infections will be gone, along with the endless pain.
