Captain, the cat, quickly captured the hearts of the staff and volunteers at Rescue Village. One of more than 1,000 cats that temporarily called Rescue Village home last year, Captain loves nothing more than to be held and petted and especially enjoys taking walks on a leash. Captain arrived at Rescue Village from a private rescue that could not provide the care and medical attention he needed. We don’t know how Captain lost sight in his right eye, but during his shelter checkup, the clinic staff learned Captain was positive for the feline immunodeficiency virus or FIV.
Captain’s can do “cattitude” made him a great candidate to be the first Rescue Village feline to successfully participate in a studio visit on WKYC Channel 3’s “We the People” with Leon Bibb and Rescue Village’s executive director, Kenneth Clarke. He was the purrrfect guest, and you can watch Captain’s TV debut at: tinyurl.com/y99epmje. It takes longer for cats with FIV to get adopted. While FIV-positive cats can require extra medical care, they can live long and happy lives, which is what Captain’s new family decided when they adopted Captain after four months at Rescue Village. Congratulations, Captain; you and your new family are great representatives for FIV-positive cats everywhere!
